Because my boyfriend demanded I upload this.

One of several projects for Illustration 4-- for this one, we had to make an illustration for an editorial article we found on the web. We had to make one full page image and two spots and then arrange it to give an idea of how the illustrations would actually work in context. I chose this article: [link]

So basically, you guys know the whole revolution in Egypt? Yeah, uh, that hasn't resulted in the best of things. One issue is woman's rights, and when women protested this issue, basically what happened is the military arrested them, beat them, electrocuted them and subjected them to virginity tests. The military claimed they did this so the women couldn't claim they'd been raped... yeeaaah. Read the full article for the whole thing, but suffice to say it's a bit screwed up.

My main image is based off of the Egyptian flag, which is a golden Eagle on top of three stripes. I figured I'd show this Eagle all bearing down on some poor lady. The other spot image is a pair of bound woman's hands against the symbol that was used for the revolution. Intense times. It was all done with watercolor.

In all, I did enjoy doing this. I think my coloring of the lady could have been better-- she started out as pen and ink and halfway through I decided to make her dress be red, but eh. I'm not sure if the image makes sense unless you really pay attention to the flag, but oh well. It was interesting to do, at least.
